Purpose of Position:
WELD TEST REQUIRED
The Welder is responsible for welding mild carbon steel and structural steel using gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG) and flux cored arc welding (FCAW) methods. The role requires the ability to work in various welding positions and produce high-quality welds. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in welding techniques, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
• Perform welding on mild carbon steel and structural steel using GMAW (MIG) and FCAW methods.
• Must be capable of welding in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions and creating fillet or butt weld joints.
• Utilize basic welding equipment and hand tools such as grinders, cut-off wheels, and magnetic drills.
• Conduct equipment checks to ensure optimal performance.
• Accurately read and interpret measurements using a tape measure. (test will be required)
• Ability to follow detailed blueprints and work instructions to complete welding projects as per specifications.
• Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others. Adhere to all workplace safety standards.
• Successfully complete required welding tests to demonstrate skills and meet job qualifications.
• Be willing to assist with other related tasks in different departments as needed.
• Lift and maneuver metal components, ensuring safe and efficient handling of materials (up to 50 lbs minimum).
Education:
High School Diploma/GED (not required but preferred)
Completion of a welding trade school program (not required but preferred)
Additional Requirements:
• The minimum age requirement is 18 years.
• 1 + year of on-the-job related experience welding using GMAW or FCAW welding methods.
• Flexibility to work in other related departments as required.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team.
• Stand and/or walk most shifts, plus ability to bend, squat, lift (up to fifty pounds), push, pull, reach with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Demonstrated exemplary attendance and work habits.
• Effective communication skills
• Pass background check and drug test
• Demonstrate ability to accurately read and interpret a tape measure (test will be required)
The weld test consists of two parts:
1. Written Welding Knowledge Test – Assesses understanding of welding principles and best practices.
2. Physical Weld Test – Hands-on evaluation of welding skills.
5-Gallon Weld Test Tank Requirements:
• Material: Constructed from 10-gauge steel with a ¼” top sheet.
• Welding Method: MIG welding (GMAW) using .035 hard wire.
• Weld Quality: Welds must be fully sealed, visually appealing, and consistent.
• Leak Test: The tank is pressurized to 3 PSI and tested with soap and water for leaks.
• Pass/Fail Criteria: A maximum of 5 leaks is allowed; exceeding this results in failure.
• Time Limit: The welding test must be completed within 1 hour.
Pay Rate: Based on experience
Shift:
1st shift – Monday-Friday, 6am-2:15pm
2nd shift – Monday-Friday, 2:15pm-10pm (+ $2.00 shift differential)
3rd shift – Sunday-Thursday, 10pm-6:15am (+ $2.00 shift differential)
