About the Role:

The Welder Subject Matter Expert (SME) plays a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of welding quality and safety across all projects within the organization. This position is responsible for providing expert guidance on welding techniques, procedures, and best practices to support production teams and engineering staff. The Welder SME will lead the development and implementation of welding standards, conduct training sessions, and troubleshoot complex welding challenges to optimize efficiency and product integrity. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to align welding processes with project specifications and regulatory requirements. Ultimately, the Welder SME ensures that all welding activities meet or exceed industry standards, contributing to the overall success and reputation of the company in the United States market.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a recognized welding apprenticeship or technical training program.
  • Certified Welder (e.g., AWS Certified Welder) with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on welding experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of welding processes such as SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW.
  • Strong understanding of welding codes and standards, including AWS, ASME, and API.
  • Proven experience in welding inspection and quality control.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related technical field.
  • Advanced certifications such as Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Certified Welding Educator (CWE).
  • Experience working in diverse industries such as oil and gas, construction, or manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with welding automation and robotic welding systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in mentoring or managing welding teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert consultation on welding methods, materials, and equipment to production and engineering teams.
  • Develop, review, and update welding procedures and standards to ensure compliance with industry codes and safety regulations.
  • Conduct training programs and workshops to enhance the welding skills and knowledge of team members.
  • Perform detailed inspections and quality assessments of welded components to identify defects and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to resolve welding-related issues and optimize fabrication processes.
  • Stay current with advancements in welding technology and industry trends to continuously improve welding practices.
  • Support the qualification and certification process for welders and welding procedures.
