Who We Are

Universal Truck Service is a family-owned company that has been built on the belief that great service and quality are not a thing of the past. Founded in 2000 with a small shop in New Brighton, Universal Truck Service has grown into a multi-location operation covering heavy-duty truck repair, tanker and trailer services, body work, and commercial truck sales. Our New Brighton Tanker and Trailer Division is home to some of the most specialized work in the industry - and this Welder / Technician role sits at the center of it.

A Day in the Life

As a Welder / Technician at Universal Truck Service, roughly 30% of your time is spent on precision welding - TIG and MIG in all positions on stainless steel and aluminum - and the remaining 70% is mechanical work on tanker trailers. You will work on petroleum, chemical, pneumatic, asphalt, and non-code trailers. Universal Truck Service is willing to train the mechanical side for the right welder. If you are precise, capable of becoming weld-certified through x-ray examination, and ready to expand your skill set, this is your role.

What You'll Do

  • Perform TIG and MIG welds in all positions on stainless steel and aluminum
  • Set up welds and work toward x-ray examination certification on code barrels
  • Perform mechanical repairs on tanker trailers including air disc and drum brakes
  • Service electrical systems, valving, venting, and overfill systems
  • Work on air and spring suspensions, hydraulic systems, and pump systems
