Location: York Precast Inc. Production Facility
Position Summary
The Steel Production / Fabricator is responsible for preparing and fabricating reinforcing steel, embeds, connection hardware, and other steel components for precast concrete production. This role supports the production team by ensuring that reinforcing cages, plates, lifting hardware, and embedded components are fabricated accurately according to shop drawings and engineering specifications.
The Steel Fabricator works closely with production teams, welders, and supervisors to ensure all steel components are ready prior to concrete placement and meet required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate reinforcing cages, embed plates, and connection hardware used in precast concrete production.
- Cut, bend, and assemble reinforcing steel according to shop drawings and specifications.
- Perform welding of embeds, plates, and reinforcement assemblies when .
- Install lifting anchors, plates, and embedded components into forms prior to casting.
- Read and interpret shop drawings and fabrication details.
- Ensure steel components are placed accurately within forms prior to concrete placement.
- Maintain quality standards and dimensional accuracy of fabricated components.
- Safely operate fabrication tools and equipment including saws, grinders, welders, and bending equipment.
- Coordinate with production crews to ensure steel assemblies are ready for casting schedules.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe fabrication work area.
- Perform routine inspection and maintenance of fabrication equipment.
- Identify material shortages and notify supervisors when additional materials are required.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Assist production teams with other fabrication or plant duties when .
Requirements
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with reliable transportation.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in Precast Concrete, Manufacturing, Construction or other related industry.
- Experience working with reinforcing steel or structural steel fabrication.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings.
- Basic welding and metal fabrication skills.
- Ability to safely operate fabrication equipment and hand tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing repetitive manual tasks.
Preferred Assets
- Previous experience in a precast concrete production facility.
- Welding certification or experience with MIG / Stick welding.
- Experience fabricating reinforcing cages for precast panels.
- Forklift or material handling equipment experience.
- Standard First Aid Certification.
- Fall Protection Certification.
Working Conditions
