The Senior Welding Engineer leads the development, qualification, and oversight of welding processes, procedures, and standards, ensuring compliance with NAVSEA, ASME Section III, Section IX to support production teams, by resolving welding-related issues, optimize equipment and personnel utilization. While contributing technical guidance across engineering, manufacturing, and program teams.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA – Cheswick suburbs

Salary: $110,000 - 145,000 per year

Your Challenge

  • Develop, update, and maintain weld procedures, qualification records, and weld documentation while ensuring compliance with NAVSEA 250-1500, ASME Section III or Section IX, and related standards.

  • Provide technical support to production welding teams by interpreting requirements, understanding and resolving complex welding issues in a timely fashion, and identifying process improvements to ensure a high level of quality that meets technical requirements.

  • Investigate weld defects, evaluate root causes, determine corrective actions, and support continuous improvement of welding quality and reliability.  Ability to operate within ambiguous situations and derive solutions that meet customer needs.

  • Participate in engineering, manufacturing, and program management meetings; prepare welding plans, production estimates, requests for quotation, and recommendations for new equipment to support project and business needs.

What You bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or a related technical discipline

  • 10+ years of progressive welding or manufacturing engineering experience with demonstration of an increasing level responsibility.

  • Hands-on expertise with Arc welding processes like GTAW, FCAW or SAW.

  • Strong knowledge of metallurgy, material properties, heat treatment, and critical weld joint design.

  • Familiarity with NAVSEA and ASME Section III or IX welding standards.

  • Demonstrated success leading welding engineering projects and resolving complex weld issues.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with sound engineering judgment.  Ability to have critical mindset when resolving issues.

  • Effective communication skills for guiding production teams and collaborating across departments are a must.

  • Experience managing competing priorities in fast-paced manufacturing environments.

  • Commitment to mentoring, continuous improvement, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.

  • Due to DoD requirements, candidates must be US citizens.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DoD Security clearances and approvals.
